Roles of a certified nursing assistant

The certified nursing assistant is found in hospitals, nursing homes, medical facilities, home health care centers. As care givers or care takers they have roles and responsibilities that have to be followed strictly to provide their service as a certified nursing professional.

The certified nursing assistant helps the beginner to learn and understand the healthcare world and the atmosphere as such. The licensed practical nurse and the registered nurse are the main people under which the certified nursing assistant works.

The foremost responsibility is to check the patient periodically in day, for any changes or health signs. This includes checking the patient blood pressure, temperature, pulse, to know the status of the patient both negative and positive, and also to make notes of the same to report it to the seniors.

The next level of responsibility include the hygiene of the patient regularly, to assist them to bath, to groom, to brush, to dress and undress, to feed, to keep a bedpan, to take them to rest room, and all these are done for bed ridden patients as well.

Keeping track of the patient appetite, in which the diet planning and implementation is done by nursing assistants. They make sure the patient eat regularly at proper intervals and also check the liquid intake.

Also checking the patient for proper consumption of medications and right doses, and also speak to them in case they need any further assistance. If they find ill health signs for a patient, they should immediately report it o the senior nurse.

There are many things that a certified nursing assistant should perform, as most of the listed roles and responsibilities may rendered to one patient completely s he may be physically challenged or physically disabled for the time. There are few activities that are performed for patients for mentally disabled.

Apart from these the roles of a certified nursing assistant also include answering the intercom signals from patients. Organize the items such as food trays, bedpans, towels, food items, and also to help the patient to walk and to put his prosthetic devices. The certified nursing assistant has to do multitasking.
