• Dairy has become a controversial area for many. The truth is that dairy is crucial to our health, particularly bone health for both genders all through our lives. Only the fat content should vary as per age, for children less than two years whole milk is fine but thereafter it should be less than 1% fat milk, skimmed milk.
• Flesh foods include meat, poultry and fish. It is advisable for those who eat meat and poultry foods to limit their in take to no more than 75-100 grams, no more than three to four times a week. Always choose lean meats over fatty cuts. Fish is preferable and advised at least twice a week.
Following the principles of healthy eating along with an understanding of foods and regular physical exercise is needed for preventing disease and achieving optimal health. A holistic approach is the p\only answer to such complex life style related issues. They need to be raised to a much higher level of public health priority. Until more public awareness and understanding emerge on the issue one thing is certain, that comprehensive strategies that consider both physical activity and nutrition education are needed for remedial actions.
